Modernizing without erasing the history
The institution has sheltered elderly people in need since 1941 and already had a digital presence built with dedication, online for many years and managed by its own team. Time took its toll, though: the site was not responsive and updating content took more effort than it should.
The goal of the project was to modernize that foundation while respecting what already existed: a new site, fast and adapted to any screen, one the team could keep managing on their own, now with far less friction.
Designed in Figma, validated with the team
Before any line of code, I designed every page in Figma and presented it to the institution, with a study of third-sector references and special attention to accessibility: a site that welcomes people also needs to be easy to use.
Development was done in Vue, with a custom admin panel on Cloudflare infrastructure: D1 database and media on R2. The team publishes updates, edits pages and manages images straight from the panel, with no code and no traditional server costs.
Ready to raise more resources
With the new foundation, the site gained custom pages for campaigns and events, online sign-ups, always-updated information and far superior performance compared to the previous structure.
The next step has already begun: I enrolled the institution in Google Ad Grants, Google’s program that provides media budget for social organizations. The structure was prepared to receive that traffic and turn visits into support: more donations, more volunteers and greater reach for the work with the elderly.
